Born in Israel, Rabbi Sa’ar Khai Shaked moved with his family to South Africa in 2013 to serve as Rabbi for the Progressive Jewish community, a position he held till 2023.

His work focuses on cultural and social initiatives promoting progressive religious identity, interfaith dialogue, social and environmental justice. 

In Israel, he was involved in peace and reconciliation work as a teacher, presenter, executive director of the “Sulha Peace Project”, broadcaster at “All for Peace Radio,” and co-chair of the education committee of the NGO Peace Forum.

Currently, Rabbi Sa’ar is an independent clergy. He had established the Almond Rod Chaplaincy and Consultancy,  offering life-cycle events, courses, workshops and seminars. His vision is to move beyond denominational limitations, delivering meaningful spiritual experiences for all, routed in the Hebrew roots, engaging with African traditions and reaching out to all those who seek authentic teaching and inspiration here in South Africa.
