A main element of pastoral work is accompanying families in significant moments of transition. Life cycle events are the time and place when the community acknowledges the shift happening in one’s life—becoming a parent, an adult, a new family, constructing a new home, and finally, departing from a beloved one.

All rituals are based on Hebrew Scriptures and traditions, blended with local traditions and the wishes of the family. Thus, each such ceremony is special and singular.

Welcoming a baby into the family and community circle, thanking God for the grace of healthy birth giving, and announcing the name of the new born. The ceremony usually takes place in the family home or in the local community center.

Judaism also offers a special ceremony of circumcision, in which the Rabbi performs the blessings together with a physician who performs the medical part. This can also take place in the doctor’s room or in a medical facility.
